MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Welcome to 2010.
As your new Mayor I look forward to working with our
community throughout the coming year.
This year promises to be a ver y impor tant year for change
and oppor tunity in Moorabool Shire. With Federal and
State government elections during the cour se of this year,
it is a great time to have a conversation with our Members
Moorabool Shire is a growing community, and the needs
for the future must be planned for and funded in
par tner ship with our Federal and State Governments.
There are many major projects underway throughout the
Shire, including the relocation of the Bacchus Mar sh
Council offices to Darley and the new Community
Learning Centre in Bacchus Marsh, which will include the
librar y and a Customer Ser vice Centre. There will also be
major upgrades to roads and community infrastructure for
recreation and spor t, plus a host of smaller projects
underway across the Shire, thanks to the Regional Local
Community Infrastr ucture Program.
The communities we have in Moorabool have many
strong and impor tant aspects. The most impor tant of
these is our people. On pages four and five you will see
our Australia Day celebrations and profiles of our Australia
Day Award recipients. There are many inspiring stories
within our Shire; these are just some of them. On behalf
of the community congratulations to all our Award
Have a great year and I look forward to what can be
achieved as we take up the challenges and oppor tunities

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Happy New Year and welcome to the fir st edition of
Moorabool Matters for 2010.
I hope you had a great holiday period with your family and
friends and are fully recharged and ready for a productive
and satisfying year.
This year, the star t of a new decade, is going to be pivotal
in shaping the future of Moorabool Shire.
With so many key issues it is imperative to have open and
efficient communication between community and Council.
We will do our best to communicate all the impor tant
milestones and stages of these projects and I encourage
the whole community to continue to let us know how
best to ser ve your needs and wishes.
Moorabool Matter s will continue to be one of our main
forms of communication. The local media is also an
obvious outlet for communications, and this year I am sure
you will see more community information meetings.
Hopefully you have all made all the necessar y fire season
preparations to your proper ty. But if you haven't, it is
never too late. Pages 11, 12 and 13 will give you some
more advice on what you could be doing to safe-guard
your homes and families.
And with the heat from summer also comes the
associated health risks to the heat-vulnerable in our
community -- the elderly, sick, infants and young mothers.
Turn to page 14 and 15 for information on Council's
heatwave strategy and tips on how to stay cool.
Summer is also a great time of the year to work on
per sonal fitness, and the gym and swimming pools in
Bacchus Marsh and Ballan are ideal if you are serious about
any New Year's fitness resolutions. Belgravia Leisure have
made some great improvements in their fir st six months of
r unning both centres. Turn to page three for more
I hope you enjoy this edition of Moorabool Matter s and I
hope that this year provides all the best
for you and your family.
