MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Welcome to the August edition of Moorabool Matters.
Moorabool Shire is one of the most diverse in Victoria and
providing adequate ser vice and representation to all the
demographics and intriguing locations of the Shire is a role that
we, as Councillor s, take extremely seriously.
Council is committed to achieving the best for its community.
Ever y decision Council makes is made with community's best
interest in mind.
This is par ticularly evident each year when planning begins for
the next annual budget and Council Plan.
In June, Council considered the Council Plan for 2009-2013. At
the time of going to print the 2009/10 Annual Budget had just
been adopted by Council.Together, these two documents outline
the work Council will under take during 2009/10 and beyond.
Page five of Moorabool Matter s presents you with a snapshot of
the Council Plan and the direction that we - the Council and the
community - will be heading in the ensuing four year s.
Council acknowledges and suppor ts the sensational
contributions not-for-profit groups make to the community.
The next round of Community Grants, Community Ar ts Grants
and Community Events Grants opens on Monday 3 August and
will close on Wednesday 30 September. To make it easier to
apply for these, and other, grants Council is holding a workshop
on Thursday, 6 August. Turn to page six for fur ther details.
I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Moorabool Matter s.

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Here we are, already well into the second half of the year. And
it has been an incredibly productive year so far, with a vir tual hive
of activity around the Shire.
The duties and roles of Council have far-reaching and lasting
impacts on all quar ter s of the Shire.
In this edition of Moorabool Matters we are providing you with
more of the in-depth information and behind the scenes
activities involved in r unning the Shire .
Sustainability has moved from being a buzzword that it was a few
years ago to an essential ingredient into all that Council does.
We continue to work hard on environmental measures and it is
encouraging to see that we're being recognised for our work from
various organisations including Victoria's own environmental role
model Sustainability Victoria.
On page three, you will see some of the work Council has been
doing to protect our environment and safeguard our water.
A community is only as strong as its leaders. And, judging by the
quality of the young people in our Shire, our future is in good
hands.Turn to page 14 to see how some of the young leaders of
today and tomorrow are rising to the challenges thrown to them.
Amazingly it is time to star t preparing for this coming Summer's
fire danger. It only seems like yesterday that a raging bushfire was
threatening the nor thern areas of the Shire, and yet it is time to
prepare again for what like another potentially serious fire
season. On page 15, you will find a rundown of what you can
do to prepare your proper ty for this Summer.
Also inside this edition of Moorabool Matter s you will find
information on the ins and outs of roadside grazing.
The past couple of months have also seen some big wins for our
spor ting facilities with a major upgrade of Ballan Recreation
Reser ve. Details can be found on page 13.
Should you wish to find out more information about these or
any other ser vices Council offers, please give us a call on
(03) 5366 7100.
