PAYING YOUR RATES
Council is anticipating to issue the 2012/13 annual notices to all
ratepayers during the month of August 2012.
On receipt of your 2012/13 Rate and Valuation Notice, Council
encourages all ratepayers to review the information printed on
your notice and direct any queries or concerns immediately to
Council's Revenue Services Unit
Some of the key information that should be checked is:
• your contact mailing address;
• your property address and parcel description;
• the area of the property;
• property valuations; and
• payment amounts, dates and methods.
Payment of your Rates and Charges
There are two main methods in which you can pay your rates -
full payment or instalments.
Ratepayers electing to pay their rates in full must ensure the
whole amount displayed on their rates notice is paid by 15
Payment dates for ratepayers opting for the instalment option are:
• 1st instalment - 1 October 2012
• 2nd instalment - 30 November 2012
• 3rd instalment - 28 February 2013
• 4th instalment - 31 May 2013
To be eligible for the instalment option, the full amount appearing
in the first instalment area of your notice must be paid by
1 October 2012. Reminder notices for subsequent instalments
will be issued at least 14 days prior to the due dates.
Ratepayers also have the option to pay their rates via part
payments on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis between
September and the full payment date of 15 February 2013.

Rate payments can be made using any of the following options:
• Australia Post Billpay
Payment can be made in person, over the counter at any Australia
Post outlet, by telephoning 13 18 16 or by logging onto www.
By telephoning your participating bank, credit union or building
society, payment can be made directly from your cheque, savings
or credit card account.
• Direct Debit
By completing a direct debit authority form, you can nominate a
suitable account with your bank, credit union or building society
to have your rates and charges automatically deducted from your

EFTPOS facilities are available and major credit cards are accepted
(Diners Club and American Express not accepted
Penalties for Late Payment
Penalty interest will be incurred on any accounts not paid in
accordance with rate payment due dates.
Full payment penalty interest is backdated to the date the Rates
and Charges were declared for that financial year.
Instalment account penalty interest is backdated to the legislated
payment due date of each instalment.
Financial difficulties and hardship
Council is aware that some people may find it difficult to
pay their rates and can offer special payment arrangements
under Council's Hardship provisions. A special payment
arrangement would entail regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly
payments. Ratepayers should contact Council's Revenue
Services Unit as soon as possible to discuss alternative payment
options or the provisions of Councils Hardship provisions.
Under guidelines of the Department of Human Services, Council
offers a pension rebate to all eligible pensioners and some
Veteran Affairs card holders. If you are in receipt of an eligible
card and are not already being granted a pension rebate, or would
like to discuss your eligibility please contact Council's Revenue
Services Unit to further discuss this matter.
