Home' Moorabool Matters : Moorabool Matters February 2013 Contents MESSAGES
Welcome to our community for the 2013 year.
After a long, hot dry spell we face a heightened threat of fire
and reduced water levels in our rivers and dams.
It's very disappointing to see many of our rivers have run dry
and the stress to livestock and the farming communities that
We continue to advocate strongly to our Water Ministers
to make sure that these rivers continue to flow, given the
abundance of water in our reservoirs and an easing of water
There is information in this edition on keeping ourselves fire
ready, please ensure you have a fire plan in place and are ready
to go should the need arise. I also encourage you to support
your neighbours should they need help if fire instances come
As one of the fastest growing Shires in Victoria we need to
work closely with our region to plan for our communities needs,
particularly around future road and community facilities. We will
continue to work with our State and Federal Members on these
and other important issues facing our growing community.
With a Federal election due this year it is important we work
closely with our Federal Parliamentary Members and agencies
to secure funding for the proposed Aquatic Centre at Bacchus
Marsh, as well as our community to raise funds to deliver this
project. Funding applications are being progressed through
relevant government departments.
Just prior to the final Council meeting in 2012, Councillors
were presented with a plan from State and Federal Road
Ministers for the eastern interchange and Halletts Way
developments in Bacchus Marsh. We will work closely with
VicRoads to ascertain the information necessary for Council
to make a decision and recommendation in regards to the
best possible outcomes. We will continue to work closely
with our community and the RSL to achieve the needed traffic
management for our community.
We congratulate our Australia Day Award Recipients and
commend them on the great work they have been doing, along
with welcoming our new Australian Citizens.
We, as your seven Councillors, look forward to working closely
with the community throughout 2013 and seeing the results of
the hard work we as a community can achieve together.

2013 is shaping up as another very dynamic year in Moorabool
Over $3.5 million in much needed road improvement works
are currently under way or scheduled to commence in coming
months. This activity builds on our infrastructure department's
record performance last year for the delivery of capital works.
You may have noticed the hive of activity in your local
community as we enter the traditional peak period for events.
I encourage you to take the time to peruse the extensive list
of events taking place over late summer and early autumn and
mark them in your diary.
The increase in events this year highlights how active, skilled,
philanthropic and social many of our community members
are. As well as being entertaining, many of these events are
significant economic drivers, injecting millions of new dollars
into the local economy each year. Many are critical fund raisers
to help support or develop important community facilities and
institutions, so I encourage you to participate and enjoy what
is on offer.
By now you should have received your rates notice in the
mail. You will notice that we have many methods for payment.
Please read the instructions on payment options and deadlines
on page 23 of this edition.
I would like to pass on my appreciation to the State government
on their recent announcement of a $300,000 grant for Stage
3 of the Main Street Bacchus Marsh Streetscape revitalisation
project. I also commend the local traders who contributed
$50,000 via Central Business Bacchus Marsh, which triggered
the initial funding application.
The new council has been formally inducted and is enthusiastic
about tackling both the challenges and opportunities in equal
measure. If you are yet to familiarise yourself with the new
Councillors, their contact details are on the back cover.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Moorabool Matters.
