AQUATIC CENTRE UPDATE
Council unveils new design and applies for funds
for proposed Bacchus Marsh Aquatic Centre
At its meeting on 5 December 2012, Moorabool Shire Council
voted to proceed with Federal and State funding applications
in a bid to make the proposed Bacchus Marsh Aquatic Centre
Architectural plans of the proposed facility and its potential
funding model were tabled and debated at the December
The proposed Aquatic facility has been designed with the
flexibility to be built in two parts and over three stages
with stages one and two being proposed in the short term
concurrently in order to deliver extra revenue streams and
more services to the community when operational.
Stages one and two will boast a 25 metre indoor heated pool,
a learn to swim pool, gymnasium, multi purpose rooms, crèche,
amenities and ancillary spaces situated over two levels.
The financial model requires contributions from Federal and
State Government, additional loan funds and the community
to make the concept a reality.
An expression of interest for $9.9 million will be made to the
Federal Government's Regional Development Australia Fund
program and $3 million to the State Government's Better
Pools Program. Council will know shortly if it has been invited
to make a formal application for funding.
Part of the funding model requires 1 million dollars to be raised
by the community. If grant funds and other capital operating
revenue streams are insufficient, it may be necessary to levy a
special rate or charge on the communities of Bacchus Marsh,
Darley and surrounds.
A report went to council on 19 December 2012 outlining the
community engagement and information process to ensure the
community have input into the development of this project.
The Council will be seeking feedback on the draft design and
construct plans for the proposed Indoor Aquatic Centre at
