Moorabool Shire Council's Local Laws, are intended to
assist in preserving the amenity of our municipality and
reflect the needs and expectations of the community.
Under the Local Government Act 1989, Local Laws have
the same legal force as state and federal laws. This means
there are penalties for breaking Local Laws and that Council
Community Safety Officers have the power to enforce them.
It is up to each resident to be aware of the Local Laws in
place throughout their municipality.

Council may remove any vehicles in public areas believed
to be abandoned. Should you believe a vehicle to be
abandoned please contact Customer Service on
Consumption of Liquor
Under Moorabool Shire Council's Local Law's the
consumption of liquor or possession of liquor in an opened
container is not permitted in any public place proclaimed
Offensive or Unsightly Land
Owners are required to keep their properties in a manner
which is not unsightly, dangerous or detrimental to the
general amenity of the neighbourhood.
Residents are responsible for ensuring the trees do not
overhang any footpath or road to create a hazard. Council
can direct property owners to remove any trees or limbs
Parking restrictions are designed for the safety of road users
and pedestrians so as to allow effective traffic management.
Motorists should read all signs carefully. Parking signs
are often only glanced at and instruction may not be fully
understood thus resulting in receipt of a parking fine.
Parking on nature strips, opposite double lines, across
driveways and on the wrong side of the road is illegal under
the Road Safety Regulations.
Fines are incurred for breaches of parking regulations and
cover a range of offences. These fees are set by the State
Government each year and are subject to change. If you
have received a fine, payment can be made at Moorabool
Shire offices or a cheque or money order can be posted to
PO Box 18, Ballan VIC 3342.
Parking for Disabled
The Statewide Disabled Persons' Parking Scheme operates
throughout Victoria. The Scheme provides for two
categories with varying parking concessions, which are
essentially based on the applicant's need for assistance.
Application forms are available from Moorabool
Shire offices or by telephoning Customer Service
on 5366 7100.
All application forms must be completed by a doctor and
forwarded to Council for processing.
School crossings are the responsibility of Council and
are attended to by School Crossing Supervisors appointed
Each property must have their street number displayed in
a prominent position.
